Child Safety Locks |
Tons of people are trying to sell you something. My goal is to keep you and your home safe for your child.
Let's face it, child proofing can be a confusing and daunting task! It doesn't have to be.
If you know where to start and understand the first 10 basics of child proofing, you will soon be able to spot potential danger at a moment's notice.
Keep in mind there is a gadget for every corner of your home. If you don't find it at first, keep looking for more products.
Chances are you are not the only one experiencing a child proofing issue that may seem unusual!
☐ 1. Electricity is a hazard! Start by covering outlets and covering cords or moving them away from where babies can reach them. Crawl around on your knees and look for hazards that in your child's perspective. Never leave an outlet uncovered. Safety switch plates are the best kind and easy to install!
☐ 2. Keep every drawer that your child has access to closed with drawer locks. This can keep them out of the drawers and prevent them from pulling over drawers onto themselves. For dressers, drawer locks can keep a baby from opening every drawer and making it top heavy!
☐ 3. Cabinet locks should bar all the cabinets in your home from being opened. Doesn't matter which kind you choose as long as they are effective. You might want to forego magnetic ones that you child will be able to figure out at a young age. Even with cabinet locks, the best thing to do is keep your cleaning supplies and chemicals up high and out of sight!

☐ 4. Use Safety gates throughout your home to quarantine unsafe areas from your children. You can also use them to contain crawling toddlers and ensure that they are not wandering into trouble. Find mounted gates for the tops of stairs in your home!
☐ 5. Fire detectors and Co2 monitors are absolutely necessary for obvious reasons. They should be on every floor and near every bedroom in the home.
☐ 6. Bolt down heavy and bulky furniture. Things like entertainment centers or book shelves should be bolted to the wall to keep them from falling on top of your small child.
☐ 7. Car seats are not quite part of child proofing but are a huge aspect of your child's safety. Use them on every car ride for every kid in your home and never make an exception. Keep your kids in the back seat at all times.
☐ 8. No home with kids should be without Ipecac Syrup and Activated Charcoal. In the event of poison ingestion, it could be the difference between life and death. Have poison controls number posted in a clear and obvious spot in your home.
☐ 9. Baby monitors can help you long after the infant years. They can alert you to trouble or when a curious toddler awakes during the night. Proves we really do have eyes at the back of our head!
