Dritz Diaper Pins - The BEST in diaper pins! Diaper pins are becoming so scarce in stores, and we've gotten lots of requests for this particular brand of diaper pin. It is the sharpest, safest and longest-lasting diaper pin! Stainless-steel, slide-lock head to prevent accidental opening.
TO USE: While securing pins, always place finger between baby and diaper to protect baby's delicate skin. Diaper pins wear with frequent use. Inspect diaper pins before use to safeguard baby. Discard pins if they become damaged or worn.
WARNING: Keep out of reach of babies and children. Diaper pins have sharp points. Use only for intended purpose of securing cloth diapers.

QUESTION: What does it mean when you say pin away from the baby
?
You push the pin into the diaper near baby's belly, and push the pin out of the diaper towards the hip.
QUESTION: Does the pin have to go through every single piece of fabric?
No, you only need to go through the layers of the diaper that you brought around the waist from the back, and at least one layer of the bottom layer (or folded front waist) of the diaper.
QUESTION: Can babies pull at the heads to unlock them? Until what age is it safe to pin?
I have pinned diapers right up to toilet training - in one child's case that was 3.5 years old. The majority of children would not have the manual dexterity to open the safety lock pins. Although there might be the rare child. If that were to happen, I would simply stop using pins immediately.

Pam wrote: This may sound strange, but if you run the pin through your hair it sharpens it. Hold the pin like you normally would and start at the top of your hair at the back or side of your head and just run the pin down it as if you were brushing your hair.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO STICK YOURSELF!! This really does work pretty good. I've done this with sewing needles that seem dull and for some reason they sharpen up by doing this! I got this tip from my grandma years ago.
Denise wrote: We always used a bar of Ivory Soap to stick the pins in and they glide smoothly thru the fabrics of the diaper.

Catherine wrote: I pin on an angle - with the head of the pin higher than the other end, and pointing away from the baby's body. This is recommended, so that if the pin should open, it is less likely to stick the baby.
Marie wrote: I have always pinned my baby's diapers at an angle, and recently have actually started using four pins, pinning one pair at an angle, and the other straight across. This seems to help keep the diapers snugger and keep them from drooping. The more active my daughter has gotten, the harder it's been to keep them from drooping around her little butt. Using four pins is a bit of a pain, but it seems to be working!
Toni wrote: I double pin my diapers. The first go straight across near the top. The second set go below that. Near the bottom at an angle that follows the way the diaper lays across the thigh.
