QUESTION: We will be using OsoCozy Chinese Prefold Diapers for the first few months and then we'll be using the Motherease diapers and we need to know what size covers we should buy. I am interested in the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap, the Babykins Lined Wraps, maybe a Snap Vinyl Wrap, and some pull on pants. Do I need to purchase the covers a size up in order for them to fit over the diaper? Is it different depending on the make of the cover?

If you are buying the infant or small size of Chinese diapers, most covers will fit true to size. If you choose to start with the large Chinese diapers, and simply fold them down to fit, you may find you need to size up in most wraps. Pull-ons are more generous with their fit, so this isn't usually as much of a problem.
If you choose to use your Snug-to-fit diapers from the start, you will definitely need to size up, as these diapers can be quite bulky on a newborn.
Yes, it definitely depends on the brand of cover. Some tend to run big, others tend to run small. I find the Whisper pull-on pants run big, where the Basic Connection pull-on pants tend to run a bit small. The Industrial Wraps are fairly generous in size, but the Babykins wraps tend to run true to size.

QUESTION: My baby is due in Sept. Any tips for cloth diapering a newborn? I wasn't successful using cloth with my first baby.

My best suggestion for a newborn - especially a baby that is under 9-10 lbs at birth - is to use All-Terry Doublers inside of small diaper wraps as your diapering system. The terrycloth is great for grabbing onto that runny breastfed poop, and helping to keep it contained in the diaper. The doublers fit perfectly in the tiny covers, without the bulk of a full-size diaper. And you can reuse the doublers again when baby gets older and wettings get heavier.

QUESTION: Could you tell me if the Weleda products contain any nut products or egg? It's a strange question, but I have two children who are highly allergic to these items along with many other allergies and I would like to try out some natural products with less or no chemicals in them. I wouldn't even mind some home-made recipes for this and for cloth wipes.

Yes, several of the Weleda products contain nut, but no egg. Not a strange question at all - I have very highly-allergic children myself.
The US Weleda baby oil has almond oil. The German one has sesame oil. You could simply use virgin olive oil or pure sesame oil instead.
Both the German and US Weleda Baby Cream have peanut oil.
The Weleda baby talc is nut-free. However, talc is a non-essential item.
The Weleda Bath Lotion has extracts of pine needles. With tree allergies in our family, we would want to avoid this.
The Weleda Child Care Cream has peanut oil. The Weleda Diaper Care Cream has almond oil.

QUESTION: I would like to know how to wash cloth menstrual pads? How many I would approximately need for a moderate flow 4 day cycle? Are they available in a solid color such as natural or white?? Also, approximately how long should they last me??

When I use them, I just rinse it in the bath tub, wring out, and toss into my regular laundry. I wash them with my laundry, nothing special. Due to severe allergies in our family, we use an organic soap to wash, but that's it.
Think about how often you change now with disposables. I would expect to need to change about every two-four hours, depending on my flow. I only want to wash them all at once, as I have no little ones anymore and don't do daily laundry.
I figure on using 4-6 pads a day. So for a four day cycle, I would use 16-24 pads. If you did laundry more often, you would need less.
The cotton fleece pads come in natural or white. The pads I am currently using are over 10 years old, and going strong!

QUESTION: Do Snug-to-fit diapers fit chubby babies better than Babykins? (around waist.)

The Snug-to-fit diapers have a fairly large waist band, while the Babykins one-size diaper is bikini style, so fits under the tummy. Your best bet is to go by measurements:
Babykins one-size diapers fit 13"-20" waist
Snug-to-fit diapers fit 11"-22" waist

QUESTION: I am currently using a diaper service with hand-me-down Prorap and Diaperap diaper covers. The Proraps seem to prevent urine leaks, but not poop leaks. I have to wash the diaper cover (and sometimes his clothing if the wetness wicks to his clothing) almost every time he poops. It seems like I might as well be using AIO's since I have to wash the diaper covers anyway Is there a diaper cover that is especially good for this problem, or will this occur with any cover?

Are you using prefold diapers? Are you pinning? If you are just laying prefolds inside of a wrap, without pins, you are more likely to get leaking onto the cover. It won't matter which cover you use.
If you use pins, Di-D-Klips or a Snappi Fastener, it will help to hold the diaper on more securely - which helps to prevent leaks. If you fold the diaper in at the sides, and down at front and back, you can form a poop-pocket which will also help.
If none of these things will work, a fitted diaper under a Velcro® cover will give you two lines of defence!
